[YEP-DC] April 12 -- Politics & Prose event for new book about school choice in DC

On Saturday, April 12, at 1pm at Politics & Prose, DC writer Sam Chaltain will read from his new book, Our School: Searching for Community in the Era of Choice. Sam spent the 2011-2012 school year in two area schools -- a first-year charter school (Mundo Verde), and a 90-year-old neighborhood school (Bancroft). His goal was to tell a deeply personal story about teachers, students and schools in order to help people better understand the state of teaching and learning as it is -- and begin thinking more strategically about what it ought to be.

As world-renowned educator Sir Ken Robinson writes in the foreword, "What Our School shows with passion and precision is that education is about real people leading real lives in real places. If school doesn't engage them, it doesn't work, no matter what the accountants and policymakers may say. That's what this book is really about and why it's so important for anyone who genuinely cares about schools, communities, and their children."

Hope to see many of you there!
