Immediate Volunteer Need!
Help break the cycle of illiteracy and poverty in DC by teaching Adult Literacy or GED classes at the YWCA!
We are looking for competent, patient, and responsible volunteers to teach in our evening GED program for the Spring term, which runs from April 17 through June 18. We need co-teachers for our Math (Mondays or Tuesdays) and Science (Thursdays) classes. Each class occurs one evening a week, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. As part of this volunteer opportunity, you will be asked to:
· Create weekly lesson plans with your co-teacher
· Facilitate activities and lead lectures in your weekly class
· Grade your students' assignments
· Update YWCA staff on your students' progress
Volunteers will receive training in classroom management, lesson planning, and subject-specific teaching techniques, and a staff member is always on-site to support volunteers during classes, if needed.
