Koya is pleased to announce a new search for an Executive Director at EdReports!
EdReports is a high-impact organization that seeks to transform K-12 education by publishing reviews of K-12 instructional materials, beginning with analysis of their alignment to the Common Core State Standards in mathematics, and expanding over time to include other subject areas as well as teacher feedback and measures of efficacy.
Conceived of by some of the nation's leading minds in math, science, business, K-12 and higher education, EdReports is launched on the basis of three core guiding beliefs:
- To improve the supply of quality instructional materials, we must first improve demand for them.
- Any review of instructional materials must be for educators, by educators.
- Credible reviews that elevate quality materials will help the entire field of teaching.
The vision for EdReports is that it will become an independent, trusted organization that produces compelling evidence about what constitutes quality K-12 materials, thereby creating strong demand in the marketplace from educators and parents, informing purchasing and use decisions, and driving continuous improvement of materials, all of which will contribute to increased academic performance by American students.
The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors, which is chaired by Harvey Mudd College President Dr. Maria Klawe. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation are providing substantial initial funding to support this effort. The Executive Director role is a location-flexible position.
Strong candidates will bring the following skills and characteristics:
- Understanding of K-12 education and its political and policy landscape and a track record that offers a deep sense of credibility with key constituents
- At least 10 years of increasingly senior-level experience managing a complex enterprise with a mix of funding and stakeholders
- Master's degree in education policy, business administration, or related field preferred
- Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills; the ability to articulate a vision and build support for new initiatives across a diverse range of stakeholders
- A proven strategic management skill set, including the ability to develop and implement effective business plans
- The ability to create demand for the organization's services by 1) understanding why they are essential 2) bringing the right people to the table to create unassailable and highly regarded materials reviews and 3) developing and executing a strategic communications and business plan
- A strong entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to take a conceptual vision and turn it into an organization that is producing measurable outcomes
Deep STEM, math, or curriculum development expertise is not required, nor is a background in teaching. However, candidates must be able to demonstrate genuine respect for teachers and teaching and collaborate with educators throughout the process.
