[YEP-DC] New Position: Communications Associate with Achieve, Inc.

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Communications Associate reports to the Director of Strategic Communications and Outreach and will help the Communications Team promote the college- and career-ready agenda to the public and policymakers. The Communications Associate's time will be divided between strengthening media relations, supporting states' communications efforts and supporting Achieve's programmatic work through strategic communications.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Communications Associate's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·         Plan and execute Achieve's social media strategies.

·         Pitch stories to traditional, digital and social media.

·         Contribute to communications strategy and execution for select Achieve projects.

·         Draft and edit press releases and media advisories.Respond to media inquiries and arrange media interviews for Achieve staff.

·         Assist in the planning and execution of media tasks for the Achieve's annual meeting.

·         Prepare Achieve media kits.

·         Assist with the production of Achieve's monthly newsletter.

·         Assist website manager maintain fresh web copy, including program descriptions and resources.

·         Ensure factual accuracy and AP style in print and online content.

·         Conduct web-based research.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: All Achieve Staff and consultants

 

 

External: Media, state and local policymakers, Achieve partners and key stakeholders

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree plus 2-4 years related experience. 

·         Experience in new/social media required.

·         Education policy and/or communications experience required; either at the state of local level is a plus

·         Proven ability to manage multiple short and long-term projects in a fast paced environment.

·         Effective time management skills.

·         Ability to work well in a team environment.

·         Proven research, writing, and communication skills.

·         Knowledge of state education policy and reform processes a plus.

·         Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and/or the Next Generation Science Standards a plus.

·         Persistence, resourcefulness, drive and ability to work proactively.

·         Ability to build collegial relationships with colleagues, state representatives, project consultants and others in order to achieve a goal.

·         Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under considerable pressure and tight deadlines.
