The First Book DC Advisory Board works to complement existing work of community-based educational programs by offering new books and educational materials at no cost to the child or program. After receiving the grant, program administrators and teachers select books and create lesson plans and programming. These books are then given to the children to take home and keep.
Qualifying for a book grant from First Book-DC is easy! Just ask yourself the following questions:
- Does your organization or classroom serve at least 70% of children in poverty?
- After using the books in your curriculum, will the books become the personal property of the children?
If the answers to the above questions are "Yes", then apply!

Applications are accepted until 11:59pm on Friday, September 6, 2013.
