[YEP-DC] Workshop Facilitators Needed to Support Family Engagement in DCPS!

Turning the Page (TTP) (www.turningthepage.org), a dynamic non-profit corporation that links D.C public schools, families and our community, is currently seeking highly motivated and experienced facilitators to participate as Workshop Leaders in our signature Community Nights program. Workshop leaders are expected to facilitate sessions with TTP staff members on a recurring basis on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings at our DCPS partner schools.

Community Nights

Community Nights help schools make stronger connections with their students' families and support parents as their children's most important teachers. Parents become stronger educators of their children at home and advocates for their children in school.

TTP Community Night workshops help create peer networks and break down the isolation that parents often feel from others with similar experiences.  With TTP, parents have a safe place to share their successes and challenges with other parents.  Teachers also lead sections of workshops during Community Nights, providing parents with an invaluable school specific perspective on the topics presented.  These workshops provide parents with a comfortable environment to learn many new skills and receive resources they can immediately use in the home and at school on behalf of their children. All workshops are based in children's literature and feature interactive, hands-on activities.

-          8-session workshop series held at 6 different partner schools across Wards 4-8;

-          2013-2014 school partners: Garfield, King, Kramer Middle School, Raymond EC, Patterson Elementary, Browne EC

-          Community Nights take place Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays from 6-8pm;

-          Workshop topics include, but are not limited to, parent involvement, parent-teacher relationships, standardized testing, homework strategies, math and reading development, and at-home science learning;

-          Each night includes a family dinner and book give-aways for children and parents.

Experience/Qualifications
