[YEP-DC] New documentary about digital learning

I thought members of the YEP-DC community might be interested in a new documentary, "One Child at a Time: Custom Learning in the Digital Age" from American RadioWorks.

Learning with a personal tutor is one of the oldest and best ways to learn. Hiring a tutor for every student was never a realistic option. Now, new computer programs can customize education for each child. But adding computers to classrooms isn't likely to help unless teachers are willing to change their approach to teaching. Listen to the radio documentary

A Website in Five Chapters:

Computers in American Schools
While the Internet has profoundly changed the way most people get information and learn new things, most students in the United States do not have regular access to the Internet at school.

The Best Way to Learn
Tutoring is one of the oldest ways to learn -- and one of the best. But hiring a tutor for every student was never a realistic option -- until now.

The Sweet Spot of Learning
People like learning -- but only when the problem they're working on is easy enough to be solved yet difficult enough to take some mental effort. Most schools are not set up to get students to this "sweet spot of difficulty."

Carpe Diem

A charter school network is using computers to try to help students learn better.

The Potential for Digital Learning

A public school system in North Carolina turns to computers to shake up teaching.

Support for "One Child at a Time" comes from Lumina FoundationThe Spencer Foundation and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
