Policy Analyst, PreK-12 - Education Policy Program
New America Foundation's Education Policy Program seeks a policy analyst who will work primarily on PreK-12 education policy, with a particular emphasis on teacher quality, school leadership, and innovation in the design and delivery of PreK-12 education. We are looking for a team player capable of generating ideas, producing original research and analysis, and becoming part of a growing, vibrant group of national education policy thought leaders.
As an analyst, you will identify promising reform strategies, analyze education data, legislation, and programs, design and implement research projects, and develop and write compelling policy papers and other publications in a variety of media. You will also have the opportunity to work with an array of outside experts and researchers, along with key policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels. And, you will execute strategies to effectively communicate ideas to policymakers, educators, the media, and other key audiences.
Responsibilities
- Track and analyze federal and state legislation and programs.
- Develop, research, and write issue briefs, reports, and support documents for policymakers, the media, and other stakeholders.
- Gather and use evidence of effective programs to develop new policy proposals and recommendations.
- Contribute to New America's education blogs and produce commentary for external publications.
- Represent the Education Policy Program at conferences and meetings.
- Develop partnerships with other organizations with related interests.
- Assist the program team in conducting events, including panels, conferences, and symposia
Qualifications
- A master's degree in public policy, education policy, or related fields, or an equivalent level of experience working in policy analysis and research.
- PreK-12 policy experience at the federal or state levels and/or experience working in schools and classrooms strongly preferred.
- Experience in conducting research and analyzing quantitative and qualitative information for policy development.
- Strong writing skills are essential—candidates should be able to communicate ideas clearly and concisely for public audiences.
- Candidates should be highly organized and detail-oriented, with an entrepreneurial, creative spirit and drive to develop original work.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively on multiple projects and tasks.
