We work at the intersection of school systems and entrepreneurship striving to create a radical new delivery model for public education. In 2007 Mass Insight Education and Research Institute (Mass Insight) published The Turnaround Challenge. That report - which U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan recently called "the bible of school turnaround" - provided an ambitious framework for approaching the devastating problem of chronically failing schools, namely by creating Partnership Zones. These carve-out Zones are an in-district strategy for turnaround, characterized by flexible operating conditions and strong Lead Partner organizations.

The Senior Program Manager, Teaching and Learning, will be the instructional expert in one or more field engagements – managing teaching and learning and building the instructional expertise of Zone staff. The ideal candidate would have both teaching and leadership expertise as much of the management of teaching and learning in Zone schools will focus upon building leadership capacity (through coaching of teachers) and building teacher capacity (through stand-alone and job-embedded PD).

- Develop leadership coaching framework and model aligned to MIE philosophies and research
- Develop leadership assessment tools to ascertain school and Zone leader strengths and areas of development
- Manage the implementation of the leadership coaching model in Partnership Zones
- Develop appropriate resources, materials, and tools as needed for the implementation of a newly developed model
- Deliver aligned professional development to district, Zone, and school-level staff as needed
- Manage supporting partnerships with external organizations in the development of MIE's initial framework and approach
- Develop teacher development framework and model aligned to MIE philosophies and current teacher development research
- Develop instructional climate assessment tools to ascertain school climate and culture related to teaching and learning (instruction)
- Manage the implementation of the developed teacher coaching model in Partnership Zones (and the identified PZ schools)
- Develop appropriate resources, materials, and tools as needed for the implementation of a newly developed model
- Deliver aligned professional development to district, Zone, and school-level staff as needed
- Manage supporting partnerships with external organizations in the development of MIE's initial framework and approach
- Build relationships with school leaders and Zone staff to better leverage support and influence;
- Analyze roles, specific responsibilities, common issues, and challenges of participants in schools to contribute more effectively to the instructional climate of each school and to increase MIE's organizational knowledge;
- Provide consultative support to school and Zone leaders regarding curriculum, instruction, professional development, and assessment
- Nurture trusting, impactful relationships with both district level and school level staff
- Align resources available with Mass Insight through the MMSI and STG to develop instructional and pedagogical approach related to leadership and teacher coaching
- Contribute to the instructional knowledge base for Mass Insight
- Proactively share best practices related to teaching and learning with the larger MIE organization
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates for the Senior Program Manager, Teaching and Learning, will have a 5-7 year proven track record of academic success working with students and/or leaders in high-needs schools and high expectations for students and teachers. The ideal candidate shall also possess the following:
- Strong commitment to MIE's philosophy, mission, and core values
- Minimum three years of a demonstrated track record of raising student outcomes (within the classroom – required, within a school – preferred);
- Strong content and pedagogical background in adult learning, curriculum, instruction, and/or assessment;
- Ability to take instructional and leadership best practices and turn them into applicable products
- Ability to ramp up on new material extremely quickly and work in an independent and self-motivated manner
- Desire to work in the dynamic and unpredictable conditions of an entrepreneurial environment
- Deep understanding of the operations and dynamics of school districts and/or state education agencies – specific expertise in school turnaround is preferred
- Strong sense of accountability and responsibility for results
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills;
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire students and leaders;
- Strong critical thinking including synthesizing different types of data into meaningful and intentional implementation;
- Outstanding facilitation skills;
- Sense of humor, positive attitude, and willingness to work in a collaborative environment;
- Bachelor's degree, advanced degree preferred.
- Consulting experience preferred.
