[YEP-DC] Hiring: DC Public Education Fund Manager of Finance & Operations (Part Time)

DC Public Education Fund (DC Ed Fund; www.dceducationfund.org) seeks a part-time Manager of Finance & Operations to join a small dynamic team to play an integral role in supporting organizational operations and finances to invest in strategic and innovative initiatives of District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). 

Background:

DC Ed Fund is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to improving DCPS by mobilizing private funding from the business, philanthropic, and general public to invest in strategic reform initiatives that drive student achievement, including quality teachers and school leaders, innovative classrooms and schools, and engaging students and families. Working closely with the Chancellor of DCPS and her senior leadership team, DC Ed Fund identifies funders, develops proposals, manages grants at the district level as well as individual schools, and supports ongoing relationships with private funders who are passionate about education. Since 2007, DC Ed Fund has invested over $75 million in support of innovation and reform in DCPS.

Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the President/Executive Director, the Manager of Finance and Operations will be responsible for managing organizational effectiveness by carrying out operational and financial processes and maintaining information flows. Job responsibilities include:

Financial Management

  • Support Executive Director in budget creation process and tracking;
  • Maintain operational cash flow documents and track against cash and commitment targets;
  • Manage program assistant activities for incoming cash deposits and records;
  • Serve as main point of contact for contracted CFO/accounting firm to support revenue planning for the organization and strategic accounting analysis;
  • Provide assistance with annual audit, 990, and other financial communications documents;

Program Operations

  • Manage grant disbursement process;
  • Manage program assistant activities;
  • Coordinate quarterly reports to the City on amounts and uses of donations;
  • Maintain and track contracts and grant agreements for the organization;
  • Other duties, as necessary.                                                                                                                               

Qualification Requirements:

Candidates should enjoy working in a results-oriented, fast-paced, collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.  A successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree required and Master's degree in business, accounting, or related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in finance, accounting or operations.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit financial planning or equivalent.
  • Excellent writing skills, including writing of multiple types of documents (reports, presentations) for multiple audiences.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  •  Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven, fast paced environment.
  • Strong analytic, strategic, and planning skills.
  • High level of personal responsibility, initiative, and motivation with strong organizational skills; ability to drive projects forward and be persistent, as well as be flexible and patient.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, aptitude for working with a wide range of individuals, and strong collaborative teamwork skills.
