[BloomingdaleActionList] Fwd: BCA Election - 21 Oct 2013

All -

I am forwarding to you the generic email that I received about membership requirements for voting in this evening's election at the BCA.

I replied to the email and asked to confirm my membership status. I was told that I was not eligible to vote tonight. I insisted that I was current for FY 2013, and received an email stating that after clarifying with the treasurer, that I am eligible to vote.

I highly recommend that if you are planning to vote in the election of officers this evening that you confirm your status today so as not to encounter a problem this evening.

Betsy

Dear Member,

The Bloomingdale Civic Association's ("BCA") election will be held during the October meeting on Monday, October 21st at St. George's Episcopal Church (160 U Street, NW) at 7pm. In order to facilitate a smooth voting process, the 2013 BCA Nominating Committee will recommend that voting take place only from 7:30-8:15pm. This will allow time for the votes to be counted and announced prior to the end of the October meeting.

The eligibility requirements this year are the same requirements the BCA has followed since the BCA bylaws were revised on October 15, 2007. Pursuant to Article IV of the BCA bylaws, members are eligible to vote in an election if they meet both of the following requirements:

lb. Payment of current dues is a qualification for membership and for voting.

            [AND]

lc. The Association's fiscal year shall be from October 1 to September 30. In the
election of officers, only those members who have paid their membership dues at
least thirty days before the election are eligible to vote. (Adopted 1/28/91)

It is important to note that the BCA's fiscal year runs from October 1st until September 30th. As such, the 2013 fiscal year ended on September 30, 2013 and the 2014 fiscal year began on October 1, 2013. For this year's election, the Article IV (1b) requirement is met if a member pays her 2014 dues before the election begins during the meeting. In order to facilitate a smooth voting process, the BCA Treasurer and Financial Secretary will be available at the meeting site to accept 2014 dues beginning at 6:30pm the evening of the election.  It would be helpful if members paid 2014 dues prior to the meeting. If you would like to pay your dues and/or verify whether your 2014 dues have been paid, please contact the BCA Financial Secretary, Dianne Barnes (dianne_brns@yahoo.com).
For this year's election, the Article IV (1c) requirement was met if a member paid her 2013 dues no later than September 21, 2013.  If you would like to verify whether your 2013 dues were paid by September 21, 2013, please contact the BCA Financial Secretary, Dianne Barnes (dianne_brns@yahoo.com).

Respectfully,
Dianne Barnes
BCA Financial Secretary
