[YEP-DC] Change a life by mentoring a youth with Edu-Futuro!

Since 2006, Edu-Futuro has delivered the Emerging Leaders Program, empowering more than 70+ youth each year as they contemplate college, apply for scholarships, and submit college applications with the guidance of their mentors. Students also develop their public speaking and writing skills, participate in college field trips, and benefit from college and career connections. Results show that 85% of youth in ELP increase their knowledge of the college application process and of the students scheduled to graduate, 85% enroll in college. Most students in the program will be the first in their family to attend college in the United States.

We are currently looking for volunteers to fill the following roles:

ELP Mentors

Join ELP in our Arlington or Falls Church location and provide guidance and advice to a Latino youth on the college application process, college life, career paths, and academics. Mentors work closely throughout the program to help their mentees accomplish two main goals: to submit the Edu-Futuro Scholarship Application, and to present a speech to their peers, family, friends, and community members on graduation day held on the final Saturday of the program. For our fall session, mentors will meet with their mentees on six (6) Saturday mornings (excluding the Saturday after Thanksgiving) from Saturday, October 26 through Saturday, December 7, 2013 for a joint graduation ceremony. All mentor applicants undergo a background check and attend an orientation on the first day of the program. You can register online at: elpmentor.eventbrite.com

Career Panel: Panelists spend the first part of the workshop sharing their stories and career path with the entire group. For the second half, we divide the students and panelists into small groups so that each student gets a chance to speak with each panelist on a more personal level. To register, please go to: elpcareerpanelist.eventbrite.com

· Falls Church Career Panel--Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 6:30pm-9pm

· Arlington Career Panel--Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 6:30pm-9pm

Scholarship Committee Interviews:  Committee members must review student scholarship applications on their own time (committee volunteers will receive applications at least one week prior to the interviews), then meet with other scholarship committee members on site to interview applicants and decide how to award the ELP scholarship funds.  To register, please go to: elpscholarcommittee.eventbrite.com

· Falls Church Scholarship Committee--Tuesday, December 3. 2013 from 6:30pm-9pm

· Arlington Scholarship Committee--Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 6:30pm-9pm

Please contact us at info@edu-futuro.org or at 703-228-2560 should you have any questions or seek more information on the program.

We look forward to receiving your application!
