[YEP-DC] Substitute Teacher Needed!

Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School is looking for dedicated and dynamic educators to work at Washington's first "green" bilingual public charter school! School Description: Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School is Washington, D.C.'s first school dedicated to education for sustainability and biliteracy. Mundo Verde's mission is to foster high levels of academic achievement among a diverse group of students by preparing them to be successful and compassionate stewards of their communities. Mundo Verde, which opened its doors in August 2011, offers preschool through 2nd grade and will add a grade each year through eighth grade. Mundo Verde employs Expeditionary Learning (www.elschools.org), a school design that promotes selfdiscovery and critical thinking, encourages teamwork, builds character, and capitalizes on children's innate spirit of adventure through handson, projectbased learning. Job Description: Performs related duties of a teacher OR supports the substitute fellow in providing continuity in the day-to-day responsibilities during the absence of the regular employee.

Note: Substitute employees are employed on an as needed, on-call, day-to-day basis and are not guaranteed work on a regular basis. There are no benefits associated with substitute employment.

Job Summary:

  • Manages or Co-manages classroom and provides instructions according to plans as prepared by the fellow or classroom teacher. (A fellow is a full time teacher in training poised to assume a lead position within 1-2 years.)

  • Provides classroom environment in which promotes active learning and supports the school mission.

  • Assists the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.

  • Works with students to help reinforce learning objectives

  • Adheres to all Mundo Verde policies and procedures

  • Uses appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

    Available Schedules Include: Subbing positions for the day program (8:00-3:30)(10:00-6:30pm); or Subbing for the extended day program Wednesdays (12:00-6:30pm), Monday, Tuesday Thursday, Friday (3:00-5:00, 6:30pm).
