[YEP-DC] Fwd: Job Opportunity: Early Childhood and Elementary School Teacher





The Dorothy I. Height Community Academy Public Charter School (CAPCS) serves children from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, we have three physical campuses and one virtual campus. We offer an academically challenging program rooted in an ethical culture that promotes intellectual curiosity and social and civic responsibility. 
 

General Summary:

Under general supervision of Academy Leader, the teacher develops and administers programs to provide educational development opportunities to early childhood and/or elementary-age students.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Implement curriculum and instructional activities to meet academic standards;

·         Collaboratively design and implement assessments with grade level team members that measure progress toward academic standards;

·         Use assessment data to refine and inform instructional practices;

·         Create a positive, structured learning environment to ensure that students embrace the core values of CAPCS including high expectations for all learners;

·         Develop detailed lesson plans based on state standards, student learning objectives and campus-wide goals for student achievement

·         Participate in campus-wide family engagement activities.  Engage with family members through regular calls, e-mails and personal meetings;

·         Implement academic and/or behavioral interventions and accommodations for students;

·         Participate in CAPCS professional learning communities inclusive of:  Summer Institute for Teachers (2 weeks prior to the start of the school year), ongoing professional learning workshops, data walks, and Saturday Academy (4 times per year for teachers),

·         Provide additional academic support to students in campus-based after school tutoring/enrichment programs;

  • Assumes other reasonable and job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment for education.
  • Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
  • Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
  • Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline.
  • Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer with experience in the use of such programs as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Comfortable with team-based work structure; ability to demonstrate flexibility on the job.
  • Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility.

 

Education & Experience:

  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Elementary Education, or equivalent
  • Attainment of highly qualified status (HQ)
  • Passing Praxis II-Elementary/Early Childhood Education scores, either 5014 or 0022
  • At least two (2) years of experience working with young children

 

Licenses:

  • DC Teaching Certification preferred

 

Physical & Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes, supplies, etc.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or types material, and the ability to adjust focus.
