Hi all,
I am part of the Diversity Leadership Team at Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and we are looking for potential speakers for our diversity brown bag series. The speaker will need to be able to travel to the Mt Washington campus. Lunch and a small honorarium will be provided.
Please send me an e-mail if you have any further questions.
Thanks,

Call for Proposals for JHU's Center for Talented Youth's Diversity Lecture Series
The Diversity Leadership Team (DLT) for The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) is
looking for dynamic guest speakers for our Diversity Lecture Series. The CTY DLT is dedicated to
increasing the diversity of CTY staff and promoting a safe and supportive community for staff and
students.
● The series will consist of brown bag lunch presentations with a short question and answer period
following (60 minutes total).
● The events will occur on JHU's Mt. Washington Campus at noon on dates that will be determined
at a later time.
● The focus of the series is broadly defined as "Diversity in Education."
As educators of young talented people in 2nd through 12th grade attending summer academic programs,
most of which include a residential component, our students are often exposed to for the very first time to
issues of race, social class, sexual orientation, religion, etc. that are outside of their worldview. A
presentation could address some of the following questions:
● How do we better support our students as they explore these new communities?
● How do we encourage students of minority groups to attend our institutions?
● How do we help students in their identity development?
● What are some strategies to increase the recruitment of staff members from diverse
backgrounds?
● What are some successful tools to train CTY staff to mediate some issues of diversity with our
students?
We would like to especially encourage potential speakers who have backgrounds in the recruitment of
students and staff of underrepresented groups, those who mediate issues of diversity on college or K12
campuses, and individuals who have experience working with diverse groups. Ideally, the submitted
proposal will connect to issues dealing with students and/or staff.
Proposals should be between 250-300 words and need to be submitted to swatki17@jhu.edu as soon as
possible. Please include several days on which you could travel to present at the Mt. Washington Campus.
As part of The Johns Hopkins University, CTY is an educational nonprofit for academically talented
students from around the world. Since 1979, CTY has identified young people of great academic promise
through our annual Talent Search, and then nurtured their intellects and personal growth through Summer
Programs, CTY Online courses, and other services.More information about CTY can be found online at
