[YEP-DC] DCPNI College and Career Readiness Program Manager

The DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative (DCPNI) is a newly formed non-profit organization with the mission to increase the number of children who complete their education from cradle to college, and enter adulthood as productive participants in the 21st Century economy and in the civic life of their communities. Through the collaboration of unique partnerships among a public charter school, DC Public schools, private corporations, community residents, service providers, and community based organizations we are seeking to DCPNI a pipeline of services and supports for the children and parents living in the Kenilworth-Parkside community, using a two-generation model.

 

DCPNI was recently awarded a five year, $25M Promise Neighborhood Implementation Grant from the Department of Education. We are currently seeking to fill mission critical roles with individuals who have a commitment to addressing the socio-economic disparities and challenges affecting underserved communities. The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit, enjoy building something from the ground up, approach every issue from a strategic perspective and bring astute analytical skills to help connect the pieces to our intricate puzzle.



About The Position:

 

Reporting to the Director of Educational Strategy, the College and Career Director ensures that all DCPNI students acquire the requisite academic, life, and entrepreneurial skills through their participation in the DCPNI program during their high school years. The Program Director ensures that all students will be eligible -and-competitive for college and successfully guide students to complete the college application process (applications, financial aid and scholarships). Additionally, the Program Director will collaborate with all program managers to ensure students are college ready through developing the 21st Century Skills required to succeed in college and in their careers.

 

Position Responsibilities:

 

Student relationships & College Readiness Counseling:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with students by demonstrating compassion, respect, and high expectations.
  • Support and monitor development of college readiness skills for students that will enable them to be successful in post-secondary education.
  • Collaborate with partners to develop college and career readiness access starting in fourth grade.

 

Program Design, Implementation and Evaluation:

  • Manage daily after school sessions (hours may vary) and create a safe, structured and fun environment for students and mentors.
  • Help students find rewarding summer academic enrichment programs, internships and summer employment or summer school.
  • Increase support for the successful transition of 11th grade students into the 12th grade and college counseling, supported by partner organizations, by reviewing academic transcripts and conducting meetings with each student.
  • In collaboration with program site staff, the College and Career Readiness Director will take the lead on planning college visits each year.
  • In collaboration with program staff and Director of Educational Strategy, plan and execute student events and celebrations, such as Summer Retreats, Step-Up Ceremony, Decision Day and DCPNI Graduation.
  • Responsible for collecting and analyzing program evaluation and student outcome data to make program recommendations for current and future program years.
  • Manage program budget.

 

Partner Relationship Management:  Partners Schools, Parents, and Universities

·       Cultivate relationships and communicate with family, school, and community stakeholders as

necessary to further individual student successes.

  • Create and maintain relationships with external partners who provide tutoring, college access, SAT prep, college success, and social-emotional support services to DCPNI students.
  • Create partnerships with colleges and universities as needed to facilitate the admissions process, including attending local and regional conferences, college fairs and forums.
  • Create alumni support group to encourage and promote college retention and graduation.

 

Site Leadership, Staff Management & Support:

·       In partnership with the Director of Educational Strategy, serve as a resource for college and career resources and access with K-12 pipeline.

·       Train and maintain relationships with mentors and other volunteers using a customer service approach.

·       Support colleagues, students, and programming across site program areas.

 

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following competencies through a combination of previous education/work experiences:

·       Group/Team Facilitation—helps a group define and/or achieve its goals and objectives through guiding an engaging and inclusive process to reach consensus.

·       Effective Communicationuses a variety of techniques to effectively deliver information to students, partners, and senior management, parents and community members.

·       Managing (Student and Staff) Performance—take responsibility for direct report's performance, by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly.

·       Project Management—identifies all the necessary steps of a project [thoroughly thinks through and plans for every component of the project], sets appropriate deadlines, moves seamlessly between prioritized tasks, identifies required participants, and holds self and others accountable to outcomes and deadlines.

·       Quantitative Analysis—collects and reviews quantitative data sets in order to recognize patterns, identifies additional information or data needed, and draws conclusions.

·       Problem Solving—identifies and/or anticipates a problem, analyzes the situation, offers an appropriate range of recommended solutions, and when appropriate, decides on and implements course of action in a timely manner.

·       Relationship building and management—utilizes effective interpersonal skills and techniques to reach mutually beneficial goals over time.

 

Qualifications:

·       A Master's in education, school counseling, social work or a related field preferred;

·       Teaching or educational leadership experience at the secondary level strongly preferred;

·       Passion for DCPNI mission and vision required;

·       Understanding of the DC Public School system required;

·       Prior experience managing student supports across the continuum of prevention & enrichment services, early intervention services, and intensive / crisis intervention services;

·       Prior experience creating partnerships between schools and community organizations;

·       Demonstrated ability in working with cross-functional teams;

·       Demonstrated ability to work effectively with school administrators with regard to program implementation;

·       Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans and coordinate their implementation;

·       The ability to work flexibly in a rapid changing environment;

·       Excellent written and oral communication skills;

·       Proficient in use of computer technology primarily Microsoft Office and social media;

·       Experience working in Ward 7 schools or schools East of the River is highly preferred.
