[YEP-DC] Literacy and Humanities Coordinator Position Available at DC Public Schools Central Office

The Office of Teaching and Learning Literacy Team is hiring a Literacy Coordinator to support the Small Group Literacy/Guided Reading Elementary Focus Area. Click here for the application link.  Job details are listed below. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years of work experience.
  • Skills with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint/Prezi.
  • Specific experience in basic website design, project management and/or event planning preferred.
  • Excellent organization and strategic planning skills. 
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, and editing skills.
  • Video filming and editing experience a plus.
  • Previous exposure to or experience in education sector a plus (specifically elementary English Language Arts experience). 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 
Supports the delivery of district-wide professional development on reading, English Language Arts, and interventions and works closely with the Literacy Professional Learning Designer for Small Group Literacy to coordinate all necessary logistics and preparation of session materials.  Coordinates and implements several projects, or components of a larger project, within Literacy and Humanities.  Key activities may include the following:
  • Support reading assessment and interventions in schools.
  • Develop curricular resources.
  • Monitor effectiveness of professional development sessions by regularly compiling evaluation forms. 
  • Support the creation of a video library of best literacy teaching practices, filmed in DCPS schools.
  • Revise, edit, and format documents and presentations before public release.
  • Create detailed timelines for each initiative; assess and track project progress regularly using various computer programs adn tools; and drive project completion holding others accountable for responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with vendors on project needs and enhancements, and training activities and sessions.
  • Update and maintain web portals.
  • Schedule and coordinate program-related meetings, conferences, appointments and logistics.
  • Identify obstacles and determine best DCPS staff to resolve; and track and follow up until issue is resolved.
  • Build relationships and liaise with various internal developments to drive collaboration and project success. 
  • Interact with and respond effectively to urgent requests from multiple internal and external DCPS stakeholders.
  • Refine and improve project management process; identify pattern/trends in issue across multiple projects; and develop longer-term, systematic solutions to address them.
  • Stay closely aware of progress of projects, high-level initiatives, and emerging issues across DCPS organization; and inform the Director of developments that impact or change the direction of programmatic priorities.
