[YEP-DC] Job Opportunity: PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER

The Dorothy I. Height Community Academy Public Charter School (CAPCS) serves children from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, we have three physical campuses and one virtual campus. General Summary:

Under general supervision, develops and administers programs to provide educational and physical development opportunities to school aged students.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Provide physical education instruction to students in pre-kindergarten through elementary – grade 5;

·         Provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to participate in community based sports, recreation and leisure programs/activities;

·         Provide basic instruction in health/fitness related areas: muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance and nutrition;

·         Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the academic, intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students

·         Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community

·         Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students;

·         Supervise students in a variety of school related settings;

·         Monitor and evaluate students' progress;

·         Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices;

·         Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities;

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·         No supervisory responsibilities. 

 

Qualifications:

·         Knowledge of the teaching/learning process in child development

·         Ability to modify instruction to meet the individual needs of students.

·         Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education

·         Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.

·         Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.

·         Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline.

·         Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth.

·         Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community

·         Excellent oral, written, and human relations skills.

·         Comfortable with team-based work structure; ability to demonstrate flexibility on the job

 

Training & Experience:

·         Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Physical Education or related field

·         At least two (2) years of experience working with young children

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to be on their feet throughout the day and possess the physical strength and stamina to physically prompt students through a variety of movement activities. The employee is frequently required to see, talk, hear, walk, and sit.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes, supplies, etc.

 

Work Environment:

Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.  No, or very limited, exposure to physical risk
