"BRUNSWICK STEAM TRAVEL BASEBALL" BENEFIT SHOW
Featuring: LINE DRIVE
LINE DRIVE, one of the Best Bluegrass Bands to come out of The Baltimore-DC area in the late 1990's, has decided to add another reunion show to its schedule.
The band, LINE DRIVE, was a very lively, very energetic ensemble of musicians that unfortunately did mostly only grace the halls of a once popular venue called The Friendly Inn from the late 1990's to the mid 2000's on rare occasions; but those rare occasions were always oh so very special. Every time LINE DRIVE would show up to perform, the place would pack-out and people would sit and watch in wanting amazement and awe to hear the replications that they'd performed there of bands and songs from yester-year; all seemingly created with such uncanny accuracy and feel; so much so that one would actually believe they'd been transported back in time and were hearing the original bands doing the original songs. The actual name of the band was originally derived by the man that is deemed to head up this compilation of talented musicians … banjoist extraordinaire, and NEWLY crowned 2013 IBMA Banjo Player of the Year, Mike Munford. Mike (whom will also be featured on vocals) will always be considered to be one of the best hidden talents of the 5-string banjo. Growing up in a hotbed of bluegrass in the Baltimore and D.C area around the sixties & seventies, he assimilated just about everything that all the great players could offer. He has imbibed everything that J.D. Crowe, or Earl Scruggs, or Bela Fleck, had ever thrown his way, mimicking them with uncanny accuracy, yet still adding in his own unique style. Mike can best be described as a hard-driving melodic. When he plays, all you hear is the things that great banjo players strive to achieve … power, drive, timing, tone, along with jaw-dropping technique & accuracy. Throughout most of his career, Mike preferred the comforts of performing close to the proximity of his own area rather than on the road … but as of late, a lot of eye brows have been arching and ears have been perked to hear this new 'old soul' plethora of talent. Next, Darren Beachley, previously of the multi-award winning Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver and of Legends of the Potomac fame, will be featured on guitar & vocals. Darren is a truly gifted musician with one of the clearest, purest high lead and tenor voices you will hear in bluegrass music today. Many people do not hesitate to place him in the same category as Bobby Osborne, Paul Williams & Russell Moore. Marshall Wilborn, the bass playing phenom, Grammy nominee, winner of the IBMA Song of the Year and multiple winner of the IBMA Bass Player of the Year Award, will be featured on vocals while providing his smooth, masterful rhythmic renditions on the upright acoustic bass. Warren Blair, featured on fiddle & vocals, had previously served with distinction in the bands of bluegrass legends, such as Charlie Moore and Bill Harrell, as well as the Bluegrass Cardinals, the Del McCoury Band and Jimmy Gaudreau's Bluegrass Unit. David Propst, featured on mandolin & vocals, has previously impressing East Coast audiences for years with his deft contributions alongside multiple higher profiled bluegrass bands such as Paul Adkins & the Borderline Band, Norman Wright, Kevin Church & The Travelers and does now currently tour with Bill Yates & the Country Gentlemen Tribute Band.
