[dcab-l] Learning to perform Bluegrass!!

The first meeting of the Bluegrass Club will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6 (just 12 days away). This program's goal is to have participants playing in a band from the "git-go" regardless of skill level. Each person will learn his or her part(s) as we put a tune together in band format. The tunes will be worked up "from scratch", each person taking the 2 weeks between meetings to get his or her assignment in shape. We will "feed" into the program more and more tunes as the weeks go by and work up 5 or 6 tunes over the 3 months. But we will always continue to work on the earlier tunes learned to get them to performance level.

Jam sessions are great but leave too many people on the sidelines because the tunes are played too fast or are unknown or are in keys that are difficult for the beginning or intermediate player.  The Club is not a jam (unless you get there early or stay late in the parking lot).

The Bluegrass Club starts each tune slowly and deliberately builds an arrangement using the skills available in the group (or groups).  "No picker left behind!"  At the end of 3 months you will know about 5 or 6 tunes you can pick or accompany with confidence and, if you "re-up', at the end of 6 months you'll know about 12 tunes really well so that you can perform them in your band, at a jam or on stage.

YES, I said, "on stage". At the end of each three months, Bluegrass Club bands will perform at Friday open mic night at the "@4410" performance center (glitz! Lights, microphones, great sound system, ambiance, audience).  The bands are also free, nay, encouraged to find outside gigs where they can further hone their skills and get rid of the "butterflies". (October Fest, Haymarket Days, Luigi's Pizza, who knows?!)

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month for three months (6 meetings) at 4410 Costello Way, Haymarket, VA 20169. ----- 7:00 p.m.

ENOUGH! Go to ContemporaryMusicCenter.com and register. Click the "@4410" tab, go to Feb. 6 on the calendar and click "register". Complete your registration by sending your check for dues of $60 (covers all three months) to "CMC", 4410 Costello Way, Haymarket, VA 20169.  The sooner I know you are coming, the sooner I can send you the preparatory materials.
