[dcab-l] Jams help, BUT . . . How about this Bluegrass Club!

The scenario:  You go to a jam . . . most pickers there are better than you.  They play "up tempo" and you can't keep up, they choose tunes at random and you don't know them and, God forbid, they call out a key you haven't learned to play in.  Your learning efficiency rating for that jam outing? - - 40%? Maybe less?

I fought that battle (and I still do)!!!

I have been trying to build a Bluegrass Music "presence" in Prince William and Fauquier Counties for about three years by presenting workshops, organizing jams and teaching people to play the banjo. (Lord knows I can't pick guitar!) Now, with the help of and under the auspices of Contemporary Music Center in Haymarket, VA, a Club has been designed to focus student attention on pickin' with others in a methodical program designed to train students to pick with other people.

Evening meetings will be held twice a month with a focus on a "band" concept. The method? Working together in "band" groups on a few specific tunes and learning what to play, how to play it, when to play it, etc., so as to produce a coordinated and unified "sound" and presentation. The repertoire expands as the weeks pass.

You may register at ContemporaryMusicCenter.com. Click on the "@4410" tab and then on the calendar and the square for February 6. Click on "REGISTER". Immediately send your check for $60 to "CMC" with the notation "Bluegrass Club - (your instrument)" on the check's memo line. Registration is not complete until the funds are received. 

Meetings will be in Haymarket at the @4410* performance center.
