[YEP-DC] YEP-DC Blog Post: "Presenting D.C.'s 2014 Teacher of the Year"

Recess blogger Amanda Klein speaks to Bill Day, D.C.'s 2014 Teacher of the Year, about the Common Core and his "more practical attitude about math education" in this month's Q&A. Day says that involves "re-orienting" his classroom to provide a more enriching experience for students, as well as acknowledging skills outside of simple computation, like perseverance on long word problems or clear organization of work. Day says he hopes the Common Core will convince students to stop looking at math as "an arcane set of facts and rules," and instead, see it as "a useful, accessible set of tools." He sees challenges, though, too.
