[YEP-DC] Join YEP in a conversation with PARCC and Smarter Balanced on Common Core Assessments

YEP:DC is pleased to announced our upcoming, virtual panel discussion:

YEP Twitter Chat: Common Core State Standards Assessments and their impact on our students and educators

WHEN: Tuesday, February 11th, 2014, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST
WHERE: Join us on Twitter using the #yepchat hashtag!

DESCRIPTION
Do you have questions about the assessments being developed around the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)? Would you like to share your thoughts and ideas with the individuals working to develop those assessments? Want to hear from the experts before the assessments are implemented in school districts across the country in the 2014-2015 school year?

Join YEP on Twitter as we host an online #yepchat about Common Core State Standards assessments and their impact on our nation’s students and educators. We will be joined by representatives from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), as well as representatives from Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (Smarter Balanced)—the two multistate consortia awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Education in 2010 to develop an assessment system aligned to the CCSS by the 2014-15 school year.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
  1. Log on to Twitter on Tuesday, February 11th between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
  2. Follow the conversation using the “yepchat” hashtag
  3. Tweet a question or comment and include “#yepchat” in the tweet
  4. YEP will select submitted questions and comments and will retweet them to either/both PARCC or/and Smarter Balanced
  5. A team of experts from PARCC and Smarter Balanced will craft a response to your question or comment!

Don’t think you will be able to make it during that time? Tweet your question, using “#yepchat” or email your question to dc@youngedprofessionals.org with the subject line "#yepchat question". All questions or comments prior to the chat will be considered for a response during the event!

ABOUT OUR EXPERT TWEETERS
The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is a consortium of 18 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands working together to develop a common set of K-12 assessments in English and math anchored in what it takes to be ready for college and careers. These new K-12 assessments will build a pathway to college and career readiness by the end of high school, mark students’ progress toward this goal from 3rd grade up, and provide teachers with timely information to inform instruction and provide student support.

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (Smarter Balanced) is a state-led consortium working to develop next-generation assessments that accurately measure student progress toward college- and career-readiness. The work of Smarter Balanced is guided by the belief that a high-quality assessment system can provide information and tools for teachers and schools to improve instruction and help students succeed – regardless of disability, language or subgroup. Smarter Balanced involves experienced educators, researchers, state and local policymakers and community groups working together in a transparent and consensus-driven process.
