About the ISH

The Institute for Student Health works to provide and connect students with educative tools and resources that facilitate and encourage healthy eating and an active lifestyle.

Founded by teachers who witnessed how improper nutrition and lack of activity can negatively affect students' well-being and academic performance, the ISH works primarily with K-12 students and teaches cooking, gardening, and fitness activities in the classroom, after school, and during the summer months.

The Positions

Candidates may apply for one or both positions.


Monday/Wednesday Instructor

The ISH is seeking a part-time Instructor (Program Associate) to teach interactive cooking, gardening, and fitness lessons to 1rd-3rd grade students twice a week. Lesson plans will be provided. The Instructor will prepare and implement the lessons and track student outcomes and data. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00pm. Compensation is $200.00 per week.


Thursday Instructor

The Institute for Student Health is seeking a part-time Instructor (Program Associate) to teach interactive cooking, gardening, and fitness lessons to 3rd-5th grade students once a week. Lesson plans will be provided. The Instructor will prepare and implement the lessons and track student outcomes and data. Classes are Thursdays from 4:30-6:00pm. Compensation is $125.00 per week.


The instructor’s responsibilities include:

i)   Carry forward The ISH’s mission with respect and integrity

ii) Prepare and deliver program lessons and activities in accordance with program goals and grant deliverables

iii) Provide proper documentation program activities via taking and uploading photographs and maintaining accurate records

iv) Pick up weekly groceries from market and/or produce from partners at farmers’ markets, and/or necessary supplies from partner vendors

v) Provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of program goals and participants’ performance via program tracking tools

vi) Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to help program participants served


Qualifications

The ideal candidate has experience teaching and working with elementary school children and is passionate about health and environmental stewardship.


The successful candidate will possess many, if not all, of the following qualities:

- Have a demonstrated interest in education

- Have experience working with children, particularly in low-income

communities

- Have experience managing or leading groups of young people

- Have strong organizational skills

- Be a self-starter

- Be a team player

- Be an innovative and creative thinker
