[YEP-DC] Compliance Associate

Compliance Associate

Capital City seeks a Compliance Associate responsible for ensuring the school's compliance with all federal and local grant-related regulations.  S/he works with the Director of Assessment and Accountability (DAA) and the Director of Students Services (DSS) to ensure that data are submitted in a timely manner and that student documentation is in compliance with state and federal law. The Compliance Associate reports to the Director of Assessment and Accountability.

This is a 12-month position, which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The Compliance Associate is responsible for:
  • Working with the DSS to ensure that records and files for Special Education students and English Language Learners (ELLs) are up to date and in compliance
  • Auditing SEDS monthly and sharing reports with DSS
  • Developing and implementing a tracking system for ELL documentation
  • Supporting the collection and organization of data specified in the school's Performance Management Framework (PMF)
  • Collecting discipline data and organizing it for analysis and reporting
  • Submitting all required information (including attendance reports, financial reports, discipline reports, etc.) to the PCSB by specified deadlines
  • Working with the finance staff and DAA to track budgets for NCLB sub-grants and compile documentation of actual spending for reporting purposes
  • Submitting reports/information/surveys as requested by the Office of Federal Grants; completing other reports as needed for grants, partnerships and internal/external audiences
  • Working with DSS to document Special Education policies for the LEA and conduct internal compliance audits
  • Providing logistical support to the DAA and Principals during interim assessments and state testing
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of work experience, meticulous attention to detail, proficiency with Microsoft applications (particularly Excel), and the ability to communicate effectively and work on a team are required.  Familiarity with DC's Special Education Data System (SEDS), experience with database management and student information systems, and experience working in a school setting are desired. 

Salary Range:  $40,000-$50,000 based on experience

Capital City was founded in 2000 and currently serves students in grades PK-12 at a single site in Ward 4.  Capital City has been a model for school reform in the District.  The school implements the Expeditionary Learning model in tandem with the common principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools (CES).  Through Expeditionary Learning (www.elschools.org) teachers craft expeditions that incorporate projects, research, fieldwork and service to support students in meeting rigorous standards. The CES principles (www.essentialschools.org) emphasize equity, depth over breadth, student leadership, and authenticity.  Capital City's program also emphasizes a strong social curriculum, a commitment to diversity, a strong inclusion model and the integration of arts into the curriculum.
