[YEP-DC] September 25: Congressional Briefing on Disconnected Youth

Good morning,

As you may know, America's youth are facing critical times. Nearly one-third of young people fail to graduate high school on time. What's more, there are an estimated 6.7 million disconnected youth ages 16 to 24 that are unattached to school or work. Of these 6.7 million, 3.4 million are defined as "chronic," having no attachment to school or the labor market since the age of 16.

On Tuesday, September 25th at 10am, United Way, in partnership with the Campaign for Youth, First Focus, Forum for Youth Investment and the National Collaboration for Youth, will hold a briefing on Capitol Hill to discuss successful comprehensive approaches that blend education, training, and work experience to support young people in achieving successful education and life outcomes.

Join us to hear from a cross-section of community leaders about their efforts to employ integrated dropout prevention and recovery approaches, transform public systems, leverage public/private resources, and create multiple education and employment pathways on behalf of youth. The briefing will highlight the experiences of young people themselves as well as the successes of collaborative approaches from various stakeholder perspectives. It will also serve to raise awareness of the existing gaps in youth services and supports and the need for federal investments and policies to support communities in reconnecting youth.

See save-the-date attached. We hope that you'll join us for a robust discussion of the policies and programs that support this critical population.

Best,

Lindsay
