The fall presidential election season is in full swing, yet arguably one of the most important issues facing the country - education - has not been given much attention by either the Obama or Romney campaigns. This is in spite of the education system's vital role in creating a highly-skilled and adaptable 21st century workforce, fulfilling the American promise of equal opportunity and social mobility for all, and promoting long-term economic development and shared prosperity.

How would each candidate govern on this issue during the next four years? What are their respective priorities and what is the likelihood of them being implemented? What are the similarities and differences between Obama and Romney on federal education policy?

To answer these and other questions, YEP-DC is bringing together three experts for a debate at The Getaway, a bar in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. Come enjoy a drink while listening to a debate on a critical election topic, and then stick around to watch the official presidential debate with YEP-DC (starts at 9:00pm).

Participants
Andy Rotherham (moderator), Bellwether Education Partners
Mike Petrilli, The Thomas B. Fordham Institute
Charlie Barone, Democrats for Education Reform

Please note that the American Enterprise Institute's event scheduled for the same day, "Education reform in the next White House: A conversation with the Obama and Romney campaigns," will take place from 4:30-5:45 p.m. at the AEI office downtown. While our events are not officially connected, YEP-DC encourages our members to attend both events.
