Although crime is a serious issue, I am unaware of any concerted
effort by DC residents to have it addressed, including by changing the
laws to toughen enforcement and penalties. Having moved into the city
from Alexandria only two years ago, my perception is that most DC
residents consider crime a part of city living or someone else's
problem.
I'd like to see the stats on where these criminals come from or
reside. I know the city has this information, but I suspect it's too
culturally sensitive to share.
