[YEP-DC] Fall Internship with the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP)

Policy Research Intern

 

The Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization committed to promoting access to and success in higher education for all students. Based in Washington, D.C., IHEP develops innovative policy- and practice-oriented research to guide policymakers and education leaders, who develop high-impact policies that will address our nation’s most pressing education challenges.

 

 

Location: Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP)

 

Reporting to: Edward Smith, Research Analyst

 

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours/week, beginning in Fall 2012

 

Salary: ($12.50/hour).

 

 

Responsibilities:  Support IHEP’s policy work by:

 

·         Tracking relevant state and federal K-12 and higher education regulations

·         Tracking progress on programs geared to promote college access and success 

 

·         Proactively conducting independent research on reports/policies pertaining to college access, preparedness, affordability, retention, and completion

 

·         Producing written summaries of new research reports that focus on low-income and underserved students, as well as Minority Serving Institutions

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

·         Graduate or undergraduate student pursuing a degree in public policy, social policy, education policy, higher education, sociology, or law

 

·         Research and/or professional experience in policy research, advocacy, higher education, or college access

 

·         Highly motivated, professional, and committed self-starter

 

·         Excellent oral, written, and communication/presentation skills
