This is, perhaps, what some may consider a token effort, window dressing, on behalf of DC Water, but I am thrilled about the rain barrel program being offered. If you are in the zone identified by the map at DC Water, you are eligible to participate.
DC DOE will come out and evaluate your house/yard to see what will work for your situation and then install an appropriate rain barrel. You will be keeping a small, but nonetheless, helpful amount of water out of our sewer lines, perhaps out of your house. For me, this will help solve a piece of the problem with the installation of a backflow preventer.
I think, Commissioner Youngblood will be posting some notes from tonight's meeting, but if you are interested, I would recommend that you contact the person on the flyer asap and get on the schedule. This is a program that normally has a six month waiting period, but we may see installations begin in early October.
