[YEP-DC] Job posting: Director of Programs at For Love of Children

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Founded in 1965, For Love of Children (FLOC) is a community-based nonprofit in Washington, DC, that provides educational services beyond the classroom to help students succeed from first grade through college and career. FLOC leverages a network of professional staff, trained volunteers, engaged families, and active community partners to teach, empower, and transform students' lives. Each year, nearly 600 students from all eight wards of DC access FLOC's afterschool, weekend and summer programs at public schools and FLOC's headquarters and our programs at our Outdoor Education Center in Harpers Ferry, WV.

 

For Love of Children is currently seeking a new member for its senior management team.  Our ideal candidate will have seven to ten years of progressive experience in educational program development and implementation, with at least five years supervisory experience.  In addition, an ideal candidate will be self-motivated, dynamic and flexible and able to synthesize research and best practices and translate that into effective program development.  Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Programs will plan, lead and direct the activities of all FLOC DC based programs to include: the Neighborhood Tutoring Program (NTP), the Scholars Program, and the facilitation of the Fred Taylor Scholarship.

 

The Director of Programs will be responsible for 1) providing leadership to the program staff in development, documentation, implementation and maintenance of systems; 2) recruit, hire, train, supervise and provide professional development to program staff; 3) enhance and oversee the evaluation of program effectiveness in order to maintain measurable outcomes using data and researched based best practices; 4) establishing and prioritizing programmatic objectives and budgets; 5) developing and implementing a team-based approach, emphasizing team interdependence and shared accountability and integration of services; 6) acting as a liaison with community stakeholders and partners, citywide collaborative, and other agencies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  The ideal candidate would have:

  • MA in Education, Public Policy, MSW, or Business/Management preferred
  • Experience in a data driven, highly rigorous, evaluation environment
  • Minimum of 5 experience in leadership positions, supervision of peers, general management
  • Experience with fiscal management and budget development
  • Experience with resource development, grants administration, training, program/business development
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Knowledge and experience with educational programming in DC
  • Enthusiasm for our mission and the non-profit sector and passionate about the youth we serve
