Position Summary: The Special Education Coordinator is primarily responsible for leading the instructional program of the Special Education Department.

Accountable To: The Board of Trustees and Chief Administrative Officer
Primary Tasks:
1. Share a commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of the school.
2. Support and fully participate in a school culture that focuses on student and adult learning.
3. Set high expectations and standards for the achievement of students and own personal performance.
4. Offer resources, professional expertise and coaching that supports student achievement of school's
academic standards.
5. Support a school philosophy that values continuous learning for adults tied into student learning and
other school goals.
6. Use multiple sources of data collection to analyze barriers to student achievement and to access,
identify and apply to the improvement of special education services.
7. Offer opportunities for the community to be involved in student and school success.
Characteristic Duties and Performance Standards: (Essential)
1. Accept responsibility for the successful implementation of the school's program and for the achievement of students.
2. Express education development plans both orally and in writing, brief several audiences, including the student, parent, instructional staff and State agencies regarding the progress of a student while maintaining strict confidentiality.
3. Provide training, both initial and ongoing, to instructional staff on the implementation of techniques to identify, locate and evaluate all children with disabilities who need special education and related services.
4. Work with parents and other professionals to determine if a student is a "child with a disability" as defined by IDEA.
5. Serve on IEP team and assist with developing, maintaining and reviewing Individualized Education Plans for students identified with disabilities within 30-calendar day after eligibility determination ensuring that the contents of the IEP meets State and Federal guidelines.
6. Ensure that each of the student's teachers and service providers has access to the IEP and understand their specific responsibilities for carrying out the IEP including: accommodations, modifications, and supports that must be provided to the student.
7. Train Instructional Assistants to provide the most favorable learning environment for students with special needs, providing ongoing observation and coaching.
8. Establish and maintain communication with parents of students with special needs, and create opportunities for parental involvement.
9. Ensure student's progress toward the annual goals stated in the IEP is measured and that the student's parents are regularly given a progress report.
10. Demonstrate exceptional accountability techniques including documentation and student tracking.
11. Guide the teacher learning process toward working with student behavior and classroom management in order to better implement the personal learning plans of students.
12. Work cooperatively with parents and generate parents' confidence in the teacher and the school community at large.
13. Identify and participate in professional development opportunities.
14. Demonstrate genuine concern for students and teachers in a climate characterized by high personal and student expectations.
15. Promote good citizenship through actions as a positive role model.
16. Provide a school culture based on the principles of firm, fair, and consistent practices, respect for individual students, and development of responsible citizenship.
17. Participate in the development of policies and regulations that affect student development and conditions for success.
18. Use technology effectively for instruction, record keeping and other administrative tasks, and communications.
19. Conduct one-self according to professional, ethical principles.

23. Work with the Chief Administrative Officer and Special Education Director to ensure building security and implement Emergency Response Plan.
Performance Standards: (Related Duties)
1. Perform various assigned responsibilities, as allowed by state and federal law, of other employees in their absence to the extent other responsibilities permit.
Required Education/Skills:
Master's Degree from an accredited institution and certification or licensing in special education as required by State laws and regulations. A minimum of five years' experience providing special education services to children and their families preferred. Urban teaching experience with students with mild to moderate disabilities, as well as students with behavior disorders preferred. Experience with co-teaching models is a plus. Position is offered contingent on favorable criminal background check.

Position: School Psychologist

Position Summary: The School Psychologist provides a full range of school psychological services to children in grades PS-8, including screening and assessment, designing remedial educational programs, individual and group counseling with school staff, parents, and outside agencies as appropriate. Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to determine the student's eligibility for special services, appropriate programming, and on-going progress. Implement all procedures to meet compliance standards as outlined in the WAC's.
Primary Tasks:
I. General
a. Provide individual and group services to children and/or parents that emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct.
b. Screen and evaluate referred children including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observations, and writing reports which state the evaluation findings and provide for educational program recommendations.
c. Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and the individualized education program (IEP) committee contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on the child's educational plan.
d. Provide collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting basic education staff with suggestions and implementation of RTI, pre-referral intervention strategies, and providing recommendations and modifications to assist basic education staff in working with special education students in the classroom setting.
e. Consult with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the child's program and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home.
f. Provide direct services through a variety of methods (e.g. classroom presentations, co-teaching in general education settings, in-services to staff/parents, etc.) as needed.
g. Maintain appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information. Re-evaluate, as appropriate, to determine extent of progress and effectiveness of therapy.
h. Establish and monitor the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school psychologist services to students/staff and work cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the IEP.
i. Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs. Participate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance therapy services.

Position: School Health Aide

Position Summary: To provide the school community, parents, student and teachers with an
exemplary, ongoing professional health program. To provide services which contribute and
respond to the individual needs of students and their parents by: arranging for initial health
assessments/screenings; participating on IEP team as appropriate when concerns are related to
health issues; monitoring health interventions; serve as liaison with school staff and outside
resources; and maintaining consistency and continuity in the school's response procedures
Primary Tasks:
1. Share a commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of the charter
school.
2. Support and fully participate in a school culture that focuses on student and adult
learning.
3. Set high standards for the general health and well-being of the students.
4. Offer resources, professional expertise and coaching that supports student health.
5. Support a school environment that influences good habits and practices related to
physical activity, eating and general health.
6. Support a school philosophy that values continuous learning for adults tied into student
learning and other school goals.
Characteristic Duties and Performance Standards: (Essential)
1. Comply with all Federal and State health standards as defined by the regulatory agent
and the Public School Code for School Health Services.
2. Comply with Federal and State health standards for OSHA including staff training on
Blood borne Pathogens.
3. Be familiar with and support school administration in the effective implementation of the
school's Emergency Response Plan.
4. Maintain a clean, sanitary, clean, well-maintained and organized health care office.
5. Establish and maintain student health and emergency records.
6. Keep accurate reports and documentation of any incident that occurs on school property
that requires medical attention including maintaining a sign-in log.
7. Insure compliance of school's illness policies and procedures including obtaining doctors
release forms for returning to school after an absence due to injury or illness.
8. Treat students for minor illnesses or injuries (temperature, stomach ache, cuts etc.)
9. Contact student's parent/guardian in the event of any incident that requires medical
attention.
10. Coordinate all health screenings of students as mandated by State or Federal guidelines.
11. Insure compliance with school rules regarding health related issues including counseling
the school staff on how to handle student issues related to personal hygiene, nutrition,
substance abuse, child abuse, depression, neglect, etc.
12. Promote physical activity to students and their families through distribution of educational
materials, individual advice, small group discussions and presentations.
13. Promote healthy eating through distribution of educational materials, individual advice,
small group discussions and presentations.
14. Discourage the use of tobacco products to students and their families' through
distribution of educational materials, individual advice, small group discussions and
presentations.
15. Collaborate with other school staff to promote physical activity, healthy eating, and a
tobacco-free lifestyle by policy development, curriculum development, unit/lesson
planning, special events and projects, in-service training on the health and academic
benefits of physical activity, health eating, and a tobacco-free lifestyle.
16. Identify and refer students with disorders or conditions related to physical activity and
healthy eating. Refer students to the appropriate school-based and community-based
services. Examples of problems related to physical activity and healthy eating include:
anemia, asthma diabetes, eating disorders, food allergies and obesity.
17. Collect, on an annual basis, medical information that is relevant to participation in
physical activity (for example: chronic medical conditions such as asthma). When
necessary and when parents/guardians give permission, give information to physical
education teachers and other appropriate staff members.
18. Collect, on an annual basis, medical information that is relevant to students' special
dietary needs (for example: food allergies, diabetes). When necessary and when
parents/guardians give permission, give information to food service staff and other
appropriate staff members.
19. Administer student medication as prescribed (when permitted by state law and in
compliance with all relative regulations) and document each occurrence.
20. Identify and develop intervention methods and procedures to adapt effectively to unusual
situations.
21. Identify grants and/or in-kind contributions that promote good health.
22. Organize resources effectively to support student health.

law. Bachelor degree in nursing preferred. Must demonstrate mastery of all areas of health care responsibility and be computer literate.
Must demonstrate a strong understanding of local, regional, State and Federal resources that
support families, students and school institutions.
