[YEP-DC] JOB: Human Resources Manager at Maya Angelou Public Charter Schools

The See Forever Foundation/Maya Angelou Public Charter Schools in Washington, DC are recruiting a Human Resources Manager. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the HR Manager will be responsible for recruiting top-notch teachers and other staff, implementing evaluation policies, supporting the retention of highly effective staff, and working closely with senior management to strengthen the organization's human capital strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the HR Manager will play a crucial role on the operations team at SFF. Responsibilities will include:

-          Leading the recruitment of classroom teachers, support staff, and others to provide principals and directors with the best possible pool of candidates for all open positions;

-          Coordinating all hiring, onboarding, and exit interview processes, including training employees on benefits, leave policies, financial/reimbursement policy, and sexual harassment policies;

-          Serving as a resource to principals, lead counselors, and other supervisors in addressing human capital and personnel management challenges, including leading some mediations among staff members;

-          Overseeing compliance and systems for tracking HR-related data, including both longitudinal data like employee tenure and career development and short-term items such as employee leave accruals and usage, and reporting as needed to senior management and other stakeholders;

-          Researching the job market, compensation, and benefits for teachers and other school staffers in the Washington, DC area on an ongoing basis;

-          Supporting the Finance Manager on benefits administration, budgeting, compliance, EEO issues, and maintenance of employee records; and

-          Assisting the COO, Director of Academics, and senior management in the development and implementation of robust policies and procedures for evaluating, training, and retaining See Forever and Maya Angelou staff.

Desired Skills, Characteristics and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in business, psychology, human resource management, or a related field and three to five years of progressively responsible human capital management experience, preferably in a K-12 education setting.

Other desired qualifications include:

-          Strong communication skills in a variety of media, especially presentations/training sessions, writing, and small-group or one-on-one interactions;

-          Solid organization and time-management, as well as initiative, flexibility, and a strong willingness to get the job done well;

-          Knowledge of federal and state (DC) regulations concerning employment, leave, and other HR matters;

-          Familiarity with performance management and compensation practices in K-12 charter schools, or a willingness to learn very quickly;

-          Discretion and sound, independent judgment; and

-          Demonstrated interest in improving educational outcomes for some of the most challenged young people in the District of Columbia.

Compensation

$45-55K, commensurate with experience. Generous benefits include health, dental, and vacation, as well as a modest 403(b) contribution.
