[YEP-DC] Washington Latin PCS is hiring a Director of Development

The Washington Latin Public Charter School is hiring a Director of Development.



Position Summary
Washington Latin Public Charter School opened its doors in 2006 to offer a challenging, classical, literature-based curriculum to students in grades 5-12.  In 2012, Washington Latin achieved several key milestones, including graduating its first class of high school seniors and earning the highest scores on the Middle School DC CAS.  In 2013, Washington Latin will relocate to a new campus with more space and upgraded facilities.
 
To support Washington Latin's growth, we are seeking an experienced fundraising professional to serve as Director of Development.  This position will be responsible for leading all of Washington Latin's fundraising initiatives. The Director's primary focus will be managing relationships with existing donors, identifying and cultivating relationships with new donors, and overseeing the planning and execution of the upcoming $6 million capital campaign.  The Director will work collaboratively with the Head of School, Board members, and staff to ensure the systems and processes are in place to successfully achieve the school's fundraising goals.
 
The ideal candidate will bring a distinguished track record of soliciting five- and six-figure gifts, a reputation for cultivating strong relationships with high net worth individuals and foundations, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and a genuine passion for the mission of Washington Latin.
 
Core Responsibilities
 
·      Develop and deepen relationships with current and prospective donors
·      Conduct research to identify new donors
·      Directly solicit donations from individuals and foundations
·      Provide comprehensive, detailed record-keeping of communications and donations to ensure appropriate follow-through
·      Organize events, including extending invitations and recording RSVP's, managing volunteers, designing the program for each and arrangements for facilities, refreshments, displays, handout materials and on-site coordination.
·      Generate a monthly progress report from Giftworks to provide information on overall campaign progress and status of each prospect.
·      Provide timely and appropriate acknowledgement of gifts and issuance of receipts to donors.
·      Manage campaign-related mailings, including newsletters and solicitation materials
·      Design and update essential development systems and processes, including prospect and donor databases and consistent methods for "moves management" in progressing donors towards giving.
·      Oversee development communications, including fund raising portion of website, campaign literature and presentations.
·      Coordinate corporate and foundation grant and gift proposals.
·      Monitor compliance with IRS regulations in the gift receipt, recording and acknowledgement processes.
 
Qualifications
·      Bachelor's degree
·      A proven track record of soliciting five- and six-figure gifts from individuals and foundations
·      Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills with an ability to create and effectively deliver a compelling message
·      Experience writing and producing print and web communications
·      Mastery of software programs for donor database management (i.e., Giftworks) and office functions, including Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Word)
·      Experience planning and executing special events
·      Experience leading or playing a major role in a capital campaign preferred
·      Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
·      Highest level of integrity with recognition of the importance of discretion and maintaining confidentiality
·      An ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external players
·      An appreciation for the values of an excellent education
