As you may know, First Book DC Advisory Board has been fundraising locally in order to provide eligible programs high-quality, brand new books to the children they serve. First Book DC is currently accepting applications, and we invite your organization to apply for a book grant. To qualify for a book grant, applicants must be a tutoring, mentoring or family literacy program or classroom that works with children from low-income families.
First Book provides new books to disadvantaged children, many of whom reside in low-income communities. First Book works to address- one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. Since 1992, First Book has provided more than 80 million new books to disadvantaged children in thousands of communities nationwide. The First Book DC Advisory Board is part of the First Book national network of community volunteers who support First Book's mission. Comprised of volunteers from all sectors of the community, the DC Advisory Board works to promote and facilitate the distribution of new books to literacy programs in - Washington DC -.
The First Book DC Advisory Board works to compliment existing work of community-based educational programs by offering new books and educational materials at no cost to the child or program. After receiving the grant, program administrators and teachers select books and create lesson plans and programming. These books are then given to the children to take home and keep.
