Program Manager
HungryBrains!™ is an NHT/Enterprise initiative designed to close the achievement gap in our affordable housing communities. HungryBrains!™ works to close the achievement gap through parental engagement, tutoring, and through enrichment activities focused on science, technology, engineering, and math. NHT/Enterprise is currently providing tutoring support for more than 75 youth in Wards 1, 2, and 8 in Washington, DC. Youth participating in HungryBrains!™ receive up to 20 hours a week in tutoring support during the school year and up to 30 hours a week in support during the summer. Each program takes place onsite where our residents live. NHT/Enterprise is looking for experienced coordinators to help direct HungryBrains!™ through June 2013. Only experienced coordinators with youth development experience will be considered.
PROGRAM MANAGER DUTIES:
· Helps direct HungryBrains!™ Tutoring Program for underperforming DC youth in Grades 1-8
· Develops and plans activities, lessons, and enrichment to boost academic performance
· Reviews standardized test scores, report cards, and attendance reports to determine learning gaps
· Carefully tracks student progress in collaboration with school officials, parents, and site coordinators
· Helps identify additional resources for program support
· Identifies potential partners
· Coordinates effective outreach to parents to maximize program participation
· Plans monthly parent meetings
· Helps secure volunteer tutors
· Plans recreation activities and field trips
· Ensures workplan implementation for additional sites
· Supervise program assistants and volunteers
· Provides direct tutoring assistance to youth
QUALIFICATIONS:
· MUST HAVE direct experience coordinating, planning, and directing a tutoring program for youth
· Demonstrated familiarity with area learning standards and curriculum.
· Four year degree preferred
· Experience as a classroom instructor, teaching fellow, or proctor a plus
· Experience with children ages 6 - 14
· Experience as a volunteer with Big Brother/Big Sister, Boys & Girls Club, AmeriCorp, fraternities, sororities and similar organizations a plus
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Sense of humor and patience a plus
· Excellent organizational skills required
· Strong software and technology skills desired
· Must pass a background check
NEED:
· Program manager needed for our Ward 8 location.
· Special skills desired in digital photography, chess, science, technology, engineering, and math.
STATUS/HOURS/COMPENSATION:
--This is an independent contractor position.
--20 hours during the school year (2:30PM-6:30PM). 30 hours during the summer (10AM-3PM). Must be available Monday - Friday.
--$22 - $25/hour DOE
