 Institute for Education Innovation has established a reputation for excellence in the education of young children in the District of Columbia. Local and national organizations and agencies as well as many families and community members have taken notice of the positive impact our research-driven program has on children's outcomes and their later academic achievement. AppleTree, in conjunction with Dr. Rebecca Silverman of The University of Maryland, College Park is presently seeking temporary contracted early childhood assessors for the fall wave of its assessment program.


The mission of AppleTree Institute for Education Innovation ("AppleTree") is to provide accelerated early language and literacy programs to the underserved preschoolers of Washington, DC to raise the trajectory of their future learning success. AppleTree's evidence-based instructional program features an aligned professional development and assessment system designed to close the achievement gap before children enter elementary school. Today AppleTree Early Learning PCS operates seven charter preschool sites—serving 620 children—in Washington, DC's four quadrants. Through a federal Early Reading First grant, AppleTree's DC Partnership for Early Literacy provides evidence-based teacher training, data-driven professional development, assessment and evaluation to three charter schools across seven campuses.

Position Description: Contracted assessors are needed for our fall assessment window, commencing September 4th, 2012 and ending September 21st, 2012. Assessors will be responsible for administering a variety of psychometric batteries pertaining to early language and literacy and numeracy to 3 and 4 year old preschool children. Assessors must be available to administer assessments over the course of 4-8 hours per day between the hours of 8:00am-7:00pm. Assessors must also attend 2 *required* training sessions on August 29th and August  30th, from 9:00am – 4:30pm. Assessors who demonstrate considerable competency, professionalism, and a desire to expand their knowledge of and skills related to early childhood assessment and data management will be asked to complete a third day of training on August 31st, from 12:00pm – 4:00pm, in order to be trained as a Site Lead for an additional stipend.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess, at minimum, a Bachelor's Degree (Master's degree or current graduate students preferred), preferably in Education, Psychology, the Social Sciences or a related field, with at least 2 years minimum working with children, or in an educational/psychometric setting. Experience in assessment and/or in early childhood settings required. Reliable transportation (our sites are all accessible by Metro and/or by Metrobus), punctuality, and excellent communication skills are a must. All candidates are subject to a criminal background check.

COMPENSATION:

Compensation for assessment prep work is $15/hour, and is optional for up to 10 assessors.

Assessors who complete training and work all days during the standard assessment window will be paid $20 per hour.  Assessors must be available all days of assessment, no exceptions.  Assessors who do not work all days during the standard assessment window will earn $10/hour for all work completed. Site Leaders will be compensated at $25/hour.  *Assessors are compensated approximately 10 business days after completion of contract.*
