Known as the "Rembrandt of Appalachian fiddle," Bruce Molsky paints a vivid picture with every song, his violin and period-perfect voice immediately conjuring hidden hollers, cold creeks and wild blue skies. Molsky is known for his ingenious incorporation of multiple genres into his "old-time" style of play, having performed with the Grammy-nominated Fiddlers 4 and the Irish, Hungarian, and Dutch musicians of the supergroup Mozaik. Guy Davis ~ Saturday, Jan. 10 in Westminster
With 2014 Blues Music Association nominations for Acoustic Album of the Year (Juba Dance) and Acoustic Artist of the Year, as well as spending over a month at the top of the Blues charts, Guy Davis "breathes new life into the country blues idiom" (Blues Blast Magazine). The son of famed actor/civil rights activists Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, Guy celebrates and expands the music and stories he learned at the knees of his parents and grandparents. Guy's history of honors includes awards from National Public Radio and the Blues Foundation, including the W.C. Hot on the heels of their Instrumental Group of the Year win at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards, Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen learned that their latest release, Cold Spell, has been nominated for a Best Bluegrass Album Grammy. This follows up a string of honors, including five 2013 International Bluegrass Music Association Award nominations, and wins for members Mike Munford (Banjo Player of the Year) and guitarist Chris Luquette (Momentum Award - Instrumentalist of the Year) and Best Bluegrass Band honors from the Washington Arts Music Association 3 years running (2012-14).
