[YEP-DC] Paid Summer Internship Posting for YEP Listserv, FirstGEN Fellows

First Generation Civil Rights Fellowship – Summer 2015

The First Generation Civil Rights Fellowship is a Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc., Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and National Immigration Law Center collaborative program, which advances first generation college students committed to social justice.

FirstGEN is a ten-week summer program for undergraduate students who are the first in their immediate families to attend an institution of higher education, and who are passionate about pursuing careers in social justice. Fellows gain hands-on experience working on civil rights matters as full time Public Policy & Social Justice interns, while also participating in an advocacy training program.  Each organization hosts up to two fellows each summer, and all fellows come together for the weekly advocacy training program. FirstGEN Fellows creates a greater community of advocates by linking emerging leaders with existing ones, and by creating a FirstGEN Fellows alumni network. Fellows receive a $1,500 stipend.

The FirstGEN Fellowship Committee seeks bright undergraduate students, who are first generation college students, dedicated to pursuing careers in the social justice field. Applicants should possess a track record of public service through volunteer work/community service. Candidates who are people of color, women, LGBTQ, or other minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications are accepted through February 2, 2015.

To apply, please fill out the form below and attach the following as a Portable Document Format (PDF), preferably as one single document: (1) one page résumé, which should include relevant prior experiences working or volunteering in public service. (2) If an applicant lacks a track record of public service, he or she may include an additional page explaining the circumstances preventing this type of engagement. (3) A reflective essay (in place of a cover letter) not to exceed two typed double-spaced pages, describing why the applicant is passionate about pursuing a career in social justice.

For program details and more information about the selection process, please read our FAQs.
