[YEP-DC] Job Opening at EDI: Higher Education Engagement Manager

 We're looking for a Higher Education Engagement Manager to join our team at the Education Delivery Institute (EDI). EDI's work focuses on helping K-12 and higher ed leaders to implement large scale education reform so that we increase outcomes for all students.

The Education Delivery Institute (EDI) is an innovative nonprofit organization that helps public education leaders to implement education reform at scale.  We exist to increase educational achievement and attainment for all students – by increasing the number of high school students who graduate college and career ready and then go on to complete postsecondary education.

Higher Education Team

The higher education team works directly with system and campus leaders to implement and scale strategies to increase student retention and graduation while closing attainment gaps.   Leaders look to EDI for guidance and support in implementing proven strategies through intentional planning, implementation, progress monitoring and data use.

Our campus practice, Student Success Implementor, builds on our success working with system leaders  and translate this to the campus level.  We help committed campus leaders increase student success by making sense of the data they collect and using it to implement targeted, proven strategies.  Please see www.SuccessImpleMENTOR.org for more information.

The Higher Education Engagement Manager (EM) is expected to use EDI's proven delivery approach to support postsecondary implementation efforts related to increasing student success.  He or she will lead engagements with campus leaders or system leaders and serve as a dedicated implementation coach, problem-solver, and relationship manager with our campus partners.   The EM will report to our Director of Higher Education.

Engagement Manager Responsibilities

The Higher Ed Engagement Manager builds the capacity of postsecondary leaders by strategizing with and coaching leaders to use the tools of the delivery approach to increase completion and retention. EM responsibilities include but are not limited to helping leaders to:

 

       Establish delivery plans, create performance management routines, and build the capacity of key staff on campuses/state systems to help deliver student success goals, including:

    Working with leaders to define their goals for students and reviewing existing implementation capacity

    Helping leaders to design, establish, and build the capacity of a small team – known as a delivery unit – that is to maintain a focus on the goals; Helping leaders to identify and establish strategies, plans, metrics, and targets to routinely measure performance on overreaching and leading measures

    Establishing delivery routines, evidence-based performance dialogues that allow education leaders to identify and address problems early

    Building the capacity of key staff capacity through formal training, workshop development, role modeling, and feedback and coaching to both successfully partner in the work and sustain it after EDI's support has ended

       Applying delivery principles to select priority completion strategies (Academic Mapping, CoRequisiste Remediation, Transfer Success, Education Preparation, etc.) to improve the effectiveness of implementation

       Facilitating campus team and/or large-group workshops  to help postsecondary leaders clarify their implementation planning and performance-management both in Washington D.C. and across the country

       Supporting a national network of postsecondary delivery practitioners through at our convenings or webinars by identifying and developing promising curriculum, tools, and resources;

       Supporting an organizational culture of continuous learning within EDI that includes contribution to our professional learning program, coaching and mentoring of colleagues, and contribution to office activities

       Increasing EDI's pipeline of engagements, including business development and contract management for assigned projects

Engagement managers are expected to travel for at least 40% of their time. 

 

Qualifications and Experience

Successful candidates will have strong leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills, as well as an in-depth understanding of the details of current higher education policies, practices, and data issues. This work requires individuals who can be highly and immediately credible with postsecondary leaders and are able to quickly build trust-based relationships.

Qualifications and experience include but are not limited to:

       Commitment to EDI's mission to improve student outcomes and close achievement gaps and willing to do what it takes to achieve it

       An entrepreneurial spirit that is self-motivated and adaptable to a fast-paced, diverse, dynamic, and results-oriented culture 

       Flexibility and reflectiveness evidenced in being willing and eager to receive constant feedback on all aspects of their work as well as an ability to accept it graciously and to actively incorporate feedback into future work

       A positive, forward-looking attitude demonstrated in the  EM constantly looking for proactive solutions in work with clients, teams, or internally at EDI

       A team player who is responsive to and supportive of the needs of others, to the organization as a whole, and to EDI's clients

       Strong strategic thinking and problem solving skills, including the ability to provide clear structure when faced with ambiguous environments. Ability to develop hypotheses and recommendations on the basis of quantitative and qualitative evidence

       Proven ability to build strong relationships, both as a coach and as a leader, across all levels of an organization

       Outstanding written and oral communication skills including the ability to structure clear communications; proficient at Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

       Several years' full-time work experience in relevant education settings preferred (e.g. campus, state system, etc.).

       Advanced degree required (e.g. MBA, MPA, EdD, Ph.D, etc).  Candidates with campus implementation experience and/or private sector strategy consulting experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
