Spring 2015 Communications Graduate Intern

Position Description

Position Purpose: The Data Quality Campaign, a national, collaborative effort committed to realizing an education system in which all stakeholders—from parents to policymakers—are empowered with high-quality data to improve student achievement, is seeking a communications intern for spring 2015 to support a number of efforts related to DQC's work.

 

Responsibilities of the Position: The communications intern will work closely with DQC's Communications and External Affairs team, assisting in both day-to-day and long-term projects. The communications intern will also be given the opportunity to work on an independent project that meets his/her own interests as well as those of DQC. This internship is an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in strategic communications and education policy. Interns in this position should expect to develop their communication, organizational, and leadership skills, as well as gain experience in a professional environment. Interns will develop a unique perspective in education policy, focusing on the importance of using robust data to improve student achievement.

 

Major projects the communications intern will be assigned to support:

 

1.       Existing communications tools and resources

·       * maintain and enhance DQC's listserv contacts through Mailchimp

·     *   do various tasks for publications, website, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram

·      * monitor and circulate media coverage

·     *   assist with the creation of multimedia projects, which may include videos, graphics, podcasts, and other digital materials

 

2.       Evaluating DQC impact

·       * populate and update internal tracking tools that monitor publications, media, and presentations

·       * track communications impact with monthly stats reports (e.g., website stats, Youtube stats, Twitter stats, click rates of emails)

·      *  maintain DQC external calendar

·       conduct fundraising research and assist with grant reporting

 

The ideal candidate:

 

·       working toward completion of an graduate degree in communications, public policy, journalism, public relations, or closely related field

·       excellent writing and communication skills

·       effective time management skills

·       ability to handle multiple short-term projects in a fast-paced environment

·       team-oriented work style

 

Time commitment: DQC is seeking part-time candidates able to work 20 hours a week at DQC's office at 1250 H Street NW, Suite 825, Washington, DC. Expected start date is January 12, 2015, and end date is May 15, 2015.

 

This position is paid.
