Family and Student Outreach Coordinator Job Description

 

Monument Academy is seeking a part-time Family and Student Outreach Coordinator who is available to start immediately.  

 

About Monument Academy

Working with the most at-risk adolescents and established on an innovative model integrating excellent academics with evidence-based, trauma-informed practices, Monument Academy will be a weekday boarding school opening in the 2015-2016 school year with a 5th grade class of 40 students.  The school is currently authorized to expand to 8th grade and maintains the goal of growing through high school so that students will graduate from Monument Academy.

 

The mission of Monument Academy is to provide students, particularly those who have had or might have contact with the foster care system, with the requisite academic, social, emotional, and life skills to be successful in college, career, and community, and to create an outstanding school that attracts, supports, and retains exceptional and caring people. Monument Academy will fulfill its mission by providing stability, adult connection, high-quality academics, therapeutic support, and life skills for pre-teens and teens. Monument Academy graduates will be prepared for post-secondary education, on a career trajectory, and have the social, emotional, and self-care skills to maintain a healthy, connected, and economically self-supporting life.

 

About the Position:

We seek a coordinator to support us in our outreach to families, agencies (e.g., DC and state organizations that support foster care, court involved, and homeless families), non-profits, and other organizations that support and interact with our target population. This individual would be responsible for helping us with recruitment and ensuring that we exceed our target number of applicants for the school.

 

The job will require flexible hours that may include evenings and weekends in order to coordinate with the availability of families and the schedules of community organizations.  Although a car is not necessary, transportation throughout the city will be required and will be more easily facilitated with a personal vehicle. 

 

Key deliverables include, but are not limited to the following:

  •        contributing to our outreach strategy, planning and implementation
  •        maintaining continual outreach to key organizations that can connect us with families
  •        ensuring ongoing outreach to families, explaining our mission, our program, what makes our school distinctive and how it will help children and families succeed
  •        helping families with the application process
  •        maintaining a database of organizations and interested families and applicants
  •        developing systems for ongoing outreach (e.g. newsletters, open houses, orientation sessions, updating the website)

 

This person would report to the principal.

 

Qualifications

  •        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  •        Cultural competency
  •        Maturity and ability to interact respectfully with a broad variety of people
  •        Excellent organizational skills
  •        Computer skills including with Google Docs/Word/Excel
  •        Goal focused to help Monument Academy reach our goal of having a deep pool of applicants so that we are fully enrolled through October (and beyond).

 

This job is part-time and could extend through July. Depending on this person's skills and interest, there may be an opportunity for a full time job when the school opens.
