[YEP-DC] Volunteer Opportunity: Mentor a High School Student though KIPP DC!

YEP DC Members -

As a network of high-performing, public charter schools, KIPP DC focuses on supporting 4,500 students and 861 alumni from Washington, D.C.'s under-resourced communities on the climb to and through college. In our efforts, KIPP DC acknowledges the value of young people connecting the dots between earning a degree, building a career and achieving success. As a result, KIPP DC's KIPP Through College team has launched the Future Focus Fellows Career Readiness and Internship Program, in collaboration with Accenture, the technology consulting company.

The Future Focus Fellows Program is a 10-session curriculum-based program that will operate on Saturdays between September 2014 and May 2015. Typically once a month, Fellows participate in interactive sessions aimed at covering topics that are crucial for success in the workforce: professionalism, resume-building, interviewing, etc. Throughout the program, Fellows are supported by career mentors who participate in sessions with them, and provide independent project support as well as general career guidance.

Understanding your interest in supporting DC youth, we invite you and others in your network to apply to become Future Focus volunteer career mentors. We are seeking young professionals who will be available to attend the Future Focus Orientation, at least 8 out of 10 Saturday sessions, and connect with students via phone or email between sessions. Generally, sessions will occur between 9 am and 1 pm on the following dates (with the exception of Orientation):

·         9/20/14: Future Focus Orientation       (9 am – 3 pm)

·         10/4/14: Future Focus Session 1

·         10/25/14: Future Focus Session 2

·         11/15/14: Future Focus Session 3

·         1/10/15: Future Focus Session 4

·         1/31/15: Future Focus Session 5

·         2/28/15: Future Focus Session 6

·         3/21/15: Future Focus Session 7

·         4/4/15: Future Focus Session 8

·         4/25/15: Future Focus Session 9

·         5/9/15: Future Focus Session 10

·         8/7/15: Future Focus Closing Event
