Position Announcement #114015 – Project Manager, Public Media Engagement

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is a private, nonprofit corporation created to ensure universal access to non commercial high quality programming and telecommunications services. CPB is currently seeking to hire a Project Manager, Public Media Engagement (Level 7), salary $60,200 - $82,700/year, reporting to the VP, Education & Community Impact.

General Description:

To manage public media education and community engagement grant programs, ensuring  they are effectively planned, implemented, accurately budgeted, and transacted in accordance with CPB policies and procedures.  Develop timelines, metrics, deliverables, and processes that ensure all project objectives and contract deliverables are met.

Specific Duties:

  • Drafts and reviews proposed project plans and budgets, manages the contract process and oversees project implementation to assure performance against agreed upon measures of success and deliverables, and reports on progress through status reports and memos to senior management throughout the project term.
  • Participates in the identification and selection of outside resources to support individual projects as needed, reviewing proposals and contract terms, and manage performance against agreed upon deliverables.
  • Solicits and incorporates feedback from panels, as required, and supervisor to refine project plans and throughout the course of project implementation.
  • Monitors project progress against plan on a regular basis, evaluating the quality of work and potential for impact, making suggestions for changes in course as needed.
  • Establishes a process for reporting and evaluating the effectiveness of community engagement investments, provide data and analysis to support project evaluation process and report on progress and evaluation of all projects on a regular basis to CPB management.
  • Develops and manages implementation of plans for the dissemination of project results and driving adoption of key best practices and priority initiatives throughout the public broadcasting system.
  • Interfaces with other CPB departments as required for cross-departmental initiatives and projects.
  • Maintains current knowledge of community engagement, grant making and evaluation practices, as well as strategic planning and project management processes and techniques.
  • Manages all reporting on project activities including report preparation. Prepare tracking systems for project management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree in public policy, education, communications, business, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of related work experience in progressively responsible positions in a related environment.
  • Ability to critically analyze project proposals and budgets and recommend modifications as needed.
  • Demonstrated proficiency related to project management and the execution of all phases of the process (e.g., establishing goals, planning, organizing, and managing resources – including budget), as well as managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong organization and time management skills, as well as analytical capabilities, and an attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to generate original correspondence, presentations, and reports using effective business writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively and develop business relationships,  and ability to strategically manage difficult or confrontational situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated  proficiency with with Microsoft Office, as well as with spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Experience working with project management software.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with public broadcasting systems and practices, or within a grant-makng organization or public service environment.
  • Experience in issues management and partnership development within complex, multiple stakeholder environments.
  • Knowledge of web-based technology, and its potential use in enhancing public awareness and engagement goals, and supporting project management and collaborative teams.

Other Important Information:

  • The work environment is fast paced with multiple and changing priorities, as well as complex and sensitive issues.
  • The incumbent is given general assignments/direction and works from established standards, plans, and procedures for accomplishing objectives.
