[YEP-DC] Volunteer Posting: Mentoring with BUILD DC

Want to change a student’s life? Become a BUILD Mentor!

BUILD DC is currently in the process of recruiting mentors for our 2014-2015 school year! BUILD is an innovative four-year business development program for under-resourced, under-represented high school students, which bridges the divide between youth and the business and intellectual resources of the DC Area.  Through entrepreneurship-based, experiential learning,

BUILD ignites the potential of youth in under-resourced communities and equips them for high school, college, and career success. To date, 100% of BUILD graduates have been accepted to college, and our mentors play a critical role in helping them achieve this level of success!

We believe that volunteers from your organization would serve as great mentors for our students as they get the opportunity to work with a unique and innovative program that is BUILD. As a BUILD mentor, your responsibility would be to provide guidance and facilitate teams of 5-6 students (freshmen) in their efforts to define a business idea, write a business plan, and create an accompanying PowerPoint presentation.  The year culminates in a business plan competition before a panel of judges drawn from leading DC Area academic, business, and investment communities.

If working with BUILD is something members of your organization would be interested in, please take a look at our website and fill out our mentor application, or contact me with any questions or concerns you may have at asusko@build.org. I look forward to speaking with you soon!
