Hi Everyone,
The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF), Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Gloria S. Chan Coaching, & Capacity Empowerment are working together to deliver a program called Scholar Mentoring Access to Resources and Training (SMART): College-to-Career Transition Program. The purpose of the program is to support rising juniors, seniors, and newly graduated AAPI students from across the country and in the Pacific Islands into their first job as a launching point for their careers.
According to the Associated Press (2012), more than 53% of college students with a college degree face unemployment today compared to 41% back in 2000. Moreover, a report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (2011) indicates that Asians Americans are unemployed for longer stretches of time than other ethnic groups, and are more likely to be among the long-term unemployed averaging more than 27.7 weeks! Key to professional success like personal branding, networking, communication, and leadership skills still remains to be a huge challenge for AAPI budding professionals. Many of us owe our transitional success to a mentor. Now is the time to pay it forward!
Scholars participate in tele-courses on job search, resume writing, interviewing, career clarity, and networking. As a mentor, you support APIASF Scholars through the pre-to-post job process that is more tailored to their needs in conjunction with these tele-courses. The 2014 SMART College-to-Career Transition Program is made possible by the generous support of Target. If you have questions, feel free to let me know, or write to the APIASF Programs team at programs@apiasf.org
If you are not able to participate, please pass this along to another colleague that you think would be a great e-mentor!
