New research says kids tend to be narcissistic and self-centered, thanks, in part, to many of the sorts of self-esteem-building activities we see in schools today. Connie Ward, Recess blogger and school counselor, says that's because many of those activities focus on helping students identify their strengths and what makes them unique without ever pushing them to consider their weaknesses or to be more self-aware. There's a solution, of course, and it's found in social-emotional learning. Connie explains more in her latest post, "A Fix for Selfie-Esteem," here: http://www.youngedprofessionals.org/yep-dc-recess-blog/a-fix-for-selfie-esteem
