[YEP-DC] Policy Analyst Opening, New America Foundation

Policy Analyst, Education Policy Program


The New America Foundation's Education Policy Program seeks a policy analyst to study and report on federal and state policies and practices that affect students of all types in pursuit of higher education. One focus of the research will be policies that lead to better collection and use of data that span K-12, post-secondary, and the labor market with the end goal of improving accountability, innovation, and consumer choice. We are looking for a team player interested in writing, researching, publishing, tracking and analyzing new legislation, brainstorming new approaches to higher education policy and practice, and becoming part of a growing and vibrant team of national education policy thought leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze federal and state laws and pending legislation.
  • Conduct research and policy studies.
  • Co-author and author issue briefs, reports, and support documents for policymakers, the media, and other interested parties on higher education policies.
  • Use data and evidence of effective higher education initiatives to develop new policy proposals.
  • Write blog posts and articles related to higher education policy.
  • Represent the Education Policy Program at conferences and meetings inside and outside of Washington, DC.
  • Work with other organizations with related interests.
  • Assist the program team in conducting events such as panels, conferences, and symposia.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have the following qualities and qualifications:

  • A sense of urgency around higher education reform.
  • A master's degree in policy or education, or equivalent in training and experience.
  • At least three years of experience in education policy; higher education policy experienced preferred.
  • Strong research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • An entrepreneurial, creative spirit and drive to develop original work.
  • An ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
