[dcab-l] The State of the DCBluegrass Union address...

Regardless of which side of the isle we sit on, one thing we can all agree on is we've got a great bluegrass community here in the Balt/DC corridor.  The best anywhere by most accounts!

Join the DCBU in celebrating the history, the musicians and the music on Saturday Feb 23rd at the 4th Annual DC Bluegrass Festival.

There's a cool band contest on Friday night (The Mid-Atlantic Bluegrass Band Contest and just 15 bucks!), topped off by a set from Bill Emerson and Sweet Dixie. Thats a bluegrass value that will receive a standing ovation from both sides!  Last year's contest was really hot (in the cool way) as I'm sure many folks who were in attendance would attest to.

The Festival on Saturday February 23rd features some of the most hard core trad BG anywhere: Larry Sparks and Danny Paisley are as old school as any one room building you'll find anywhere. Larry, of course, learned at the feet of Ralph Stanley, the elder statesman of BG. Danny's roots were more small town, but no less authentic or moving. Bob Paisley played it honest.

Remington Ryde and Jay Armsworthy and Eastern Tradition will be in the mix as well, providing great entertaining music and making a bunch of new fans with great sounds that have been honed to a fine polish by many shows and miles spent on the road. They don't play in these parts too often, so you don't want to miss out.

Like something more contemporary? Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen and Newgrass Effect have some of the cleanest, sweetest licks and harmonies anywhere. Tom Gray on playing the bass with NE is just icing on the cake, so to say. Frank and the band are quickly becoming one of the most anticipated bands on the BG scene anywhere.

Still, the DCBluegrass Festival is about community, our community. So we urge you all to join in and participate. Pick, listen, and sing with your friends and peers. Vote today for live bluegrass music by purchasing tickets for the two shows- and help make this DCBF the we've put on: http://dcbu.ticketleap.com/the-fourth-annual-dc-bluegrass-festival/dates/Feb-22-2013_at_0800PM

Thanks, and see you at the 4th Annual DC Bluegrass Festival!

Matt.
