Magnet Schools of America
Spring Development and Research Internships
Magnet Schools of America (MSA) has two internship openings for intelligent, driven and enterprising undergraduate or graduate students interested in learning more about education policy, research, and fundraising in Washington, D.C. Through their work with Magnet Schools of America, both interns also will gain specific knowledge about magnet schools, the school choice movement, and the current successes and challenges of the K-12 public education system across the United States.
The Development intern position provides a wonderful opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience with professional fundraising and communications. The Development intern, an unpaid position, will research funding opportunities, assist with grant preparation, prepare correspondence with donors, update our donor database, and prepare information for print and online materials, case studies, and proposals.
The Research intern position is a great opportunity for a high-achieving individual to apply their research skills to the K-12 educational policy landscape. The Research intern, also unpaid, will work on two major research projects, analyzing data, contacting likely respondents, conducting the survey, and giving periodic reports to the Executive Director.
About the Internships
The MSA Internship Program is accepting applications from college juniors and seniors as well as students enrolled in graduate programs. During the spring, interns are expected to contribute 8-12 hours/week of their time. We offer a flexible schedule to accommodate classes and coursework. Exact days and times are determined in conjunction with the intern's manager. Successful spring interns will be considered for the summer internship.
In addition to working directly with our staff on engaging projects, interns will benefit from a variety of professional development opportunities including regular staff meetings, participation in discussions on various topics in education, mentorships, and opportunities to network and learn about education policy by attending events in Washington, D.C.
Internships are unpaid; however, interns will receive a prepaid Metro Card for work-related travel. We are happy to work with your school to complete any paperwork to satisfy course credit requirements.
